The glomerular filtration rate (GFR) is a critical indicator of kidney function, and its value may be measured using a simple blood test for creatinine. Historically, studies have shown that people who identify as Black/African-American tend to have greater creatinine levels in their blood, which should be considered when calculating GFR.
